DIY Notebooks

Have you ever been wondering what to do with empty milk cartons? Use them to make cover for your own homemade notebooks.

1. Supplies needed: Milk carton, paper cutter, scissors, 10 sheets of paper, stapler and a rubber band. 2. Cut out a rectangular piece of the carton, including two sides and the fold in the middle. Cut out 10 sheets of paper slightly smaller than the carton piece. 3. Use a stapler to attach the sheets of paper to the carton. Make sure the staples are placed right on the fold. 4. Use something heavy to press the book together. 5. Use a rubber band to keep the book from opening itself.

  1. how could i cut the paper neatly not using a paper cutter?

    • That is a good question Fran :-) One idea is to use a pair of scissors and cut the paper roughly first, then assemble the book and in the end you can go over the sides again with the scissors to make it look perfect.

    • You can also use a stanley knife and a steel ruler to cut neat straight lines

  3. Can you use any thing else besides a milk cartan?? Like card board??

By Jessica on August 26, 2012 at 9:24 pm #  (Reply)
    • Sure Jessica, you can use card board if you have a strong enough stapler that will go through. All kinds of paper, carton and carboard that will bend will do for a cover.

  4. Great idea! I’ve also seen similar books made with cereal boxes, Mac and cheese boxes, etc. There are so many variations!
