If you wanna spend more time together as a family and make memories during Advent, then an activity Advent calendar is something for you. Write down a new thing you can do together each day and present the notes in hanging trees.
Supplies: Number stamps and a tree stamp, a glue stick, a pair of scissors, twine, tape, brown paper, plain white paper and a branch. Now, if you don’t have stamps you can always use a marker. I started with cutting 24 squares of brown paper, approximately 15 x 15 cm (6 x 6 in). Then I stamped them with the tree and a number. Inside I put a triangle-shaped note stating what we are doing this day, e.g. decorating the Christmas tree. To make sure the brown paper tree will stay closed until opening time, I sealed it with the glue stick when wrapping it. Then, at the end I taped on some twine on the top and attaching it to the branch. Repeat this 24 (or 25) times.
Here are a few examples on things you can do together:
- Cut paper snowflakes and decorate the windows
- Sing carols
- Bake buns and give to the homeless
- Go ice skating
- Make Christmas cards and give to friends
- Watch the movie ‘Home Alone’
- Make Christmas tree ornaments
- Read ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens in front of the fireplace
